5 reasons why you should start your "Enough" today

You are sitting there doing something you know doesn't fulfill you at all. Why put yourself through such torture? Start!

When you woke up this morning, what was the first thing you thought about? For some, it may have been - "here we go again..." while for others it was the beginning of something special. This is the reality of life's cyclical ebbs and flows. We are all either in the middle, finishing, or starting a chapter in our lives. Each moment serves as a transition towards something that's instrumental in how we either grow or regress. In this "Stewardship File" entry I thought to share 5 reasons why you should start your "enough" today.

1. You owe yourself the privilege of trying

It's incredibly difficult to navigate the world today. It's even harder to live in a world of regret. I remember second-guessing myself on an entrepreneurial concept because someone told me that it was impossible. What made it a difficult pill to swallow was when I saw someone pursue and succeed in a similar endeavour. Not only did they succeed, but they also started under more difficult circumstances than I could have ever imagined.

Turning to you, my regret is something that I wouldn't like you to live out which is why I passionately implore you to start. Regret is a miserable place to be. I remember hearing the story of a man walking through a cemetery with a friend. It was a beautiful day to be out and these two gentlemen had thought to take a moment to pay their respects to a dear friend who had recently passed. While walking through the rows of tombstones they came across one that belonged to a successful and popular individual. With a heavy sigh, one of the men uttered, "this person was amazing. Can you imagine what this world would be like if they didn't fight for their beliefs and introduce the world to that invention?" the other responded, "we know this one because they put themselves out there and tried, imagine how many dreams are buried here because they didn't believe in themselves?"

As you read this, there must some things that you see in this world that you see needing a change. Why not be the one to step up considering that you are alive and more importantly because you see the problem? You owe it to yourself to pursue your dream (what we call "Your Enough" here at The Enough Initiative (TEI)) and you may be the answer the world is waiting for.

2. They are people waiting for you

Where you are pursuing your dream you are opening up an opportunity for someone else. Imagine if Bill Gates didn't pursue his dream where the opportunity would be today for all those who work for Microsoft? Imagine the world of discoveries you and I have the benefit of enjoying were buried with their founders where we would be?

The world is waiting for you to show what you're made of. While there are some people who will not support your dream it's very clear that "Your Enough" is needed. If you don't start who will?

3. You were not created to be a spectator in this life

What's the point of being here if your contribution is limited to being the one that watches others become while you be? There's a difference between becoming and being. To be is a given which is why we are called human beings. Becoming on the other hand is taking the conscious step to be better. To pursue something that makes you better. To be intentional about how you use each breath that you have and each talent you've been afforded. Life is not a spectator sport neither is your talent.

While we don't know when our expiration date will come we have a responsibility to use what we are good at so as to validate being alive.

4. Time keeps moving and so should you

Time is one of the most undervalued resources and yet it's one of, if not the only thing, that can't be renewed. When thinking about the course of a day in your life how conscious are you about the time you've spent? Here's a fun fact, you will never get back the time you spent scrolling through your phone aimlessly. Even as I put this together I'm guilty of recklessly spending my time.

Wouldn't it mean more if you used your time to work towards your enough? I have an acronym for T.I.M.E. that reads - Things I Make Essential. I use it as a reminder that time keeps moving and the things I make essential are the things I spend my non-renewable resource (time) on. How are you spending what you'll never get back with each moment?

5. You are good enough

It would be a waste of your time if I didn't remind you of something that you may overlook every day. YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH. When we begin chasing our dreams and aspirations it's easy to get caught up in what could go wrong. It's second nature for most, and I must say it's kind of a weakness of mine. But what I've come to learn is that trying is the best thing you could do to see how good you are.

There are things that you can do that I can't do and vice-versa but the only way to discover this is by trying. As you start to embrace the fact that you are always good enough allow yourself to the privilege of trying, understand that there are people who desperately need you to start, life was never a spectator sport, and time is ticking away. It's your time to start because if you don't someone else will. You are sitting there doing something you know doesn't fulfill you at all. Why put yourself through such torture?
